Statkraft is a leading company in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. The Group produces hydro, wind, solar, gas-fired power, and supplies district heating.
Statkraft’s presence in Brazil goes back to 2008 through their subsidiary SN Power. Since 2014 they have been present as Statkraft with a head office in Florianópolis, and regional offices in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Statkraft became a member of BNCC this year and kindly welcomed our members for a breakfast meeting in the remarkable corporate building.
Statkraft already has operating hydro and wind power plants, with a platform to grow in renewable technologies by combining insights in the Brazilian energy market with experience from the European power markets. Moreover, the company has a long term vision for Brazil where they intent to contribute to the country by providing industrial competence, knowledge, and expertise, while maintaining strict safety standards and transparency.
Renewable energy accounted for more than 85% of the domestically produced electricity used in Brazil. Hydropower is the backbone of electricity production in Brazil, but wind and solar will be increasingly in the years to come. Dr. Tzschoppe mentioned that the company sees many opportunities in the Brazilian market with the auctioning of additional renewable capacity, since there are great conditions for wind and solar power generation. Additional opportunities could arise with privatization of Eletrobras.
He also mentioned that the work on fighting corruption (Car Wash) is seen with optimism as a way to improve the political system in the long term. “The Brazilian political situation has been seen, from an investor perspective, quite stable and moving in a good direction,” said Dr. Tzschoppe.
BNCC is proud of having Statkraft as member and hope that their objective of developing further in the Brazilian renewable energy market materializes, opening doors to strengthen the commercial relations between Brazil and Norway, and attracting new opportunities for further investments in Brazil.
