On January 28th BNCC member Veirano Advogados in cooperation with their Norwegian associate Advokatfirmaet Thommessen held a morning seminar on legal and tax issues to be aware of if you intend to run a profitable business in the Brazilian oil&gas market. The seminar in Oslo was one of a series to be held this week in Kristiansand, Stavanger, Bergen and Ålesund.
The Veirano team was headed by Ronaldo Veirano, well known to Norwegian companies operating in Brazil. Negotiating with Petrobras, Local Content Rules, tax and custom issues were treated. An audience of more than 50 people was given a mix of formal legal advice and practical tips on how to succeed in business in Brazil. Questions from the audience touched upon concerns on how to meet Local Content Rules, the rising cost of manpower and nationally produced equipment and production capacity problems. As was said, the situation in the supplier industry is difficult and the regulations are strict, but pragmatic solutions can be found if you have the right approach and understand the Brazilian business culture.
Veirano Advogados will be known to BNCC members also through their monthly newsletter “Vista Brazil”, see BNCC website article August 2012.
