It is with great sadness and grief that we in the Brazilian – Norwegian Chamber of Commerce have received the news of Erling Lorentzen’s death.
His life and work are well known from the businessman and entrepreneur who developed industry and shipping business of great international importance to his great contribution during World War II
Less well known is possibly his important contribution to the development of Norwegian-Brazilian trade and industrial activities. His generosity in sharing his own network and relations for Norwegian Industry and Shipping in Brazil is possibly even less well known. For many years, Erling was the first point of contact for Norwegian business and industry when entering Brazil. He showed the way in unknown waters and his advice was invaluable to many in Norwegian business who considered the Brazilian market. He was always available and gave us both his time and experience in many demanding situations. We also remember Erling, the person, as a social center on board of his sailboat in Saga in quiet times. As a small acknowledgment, he was invited as the chamber’s first honorary member quite recently.
We bow our heads in recognition and gratitude for his great and invaluable support and the time he gave us both personally and as an icon in Norwegian – Brazilian business. Our thoughts go to his family with the hope that many good memories will also bring joy in difficult times.
