Cooperation Norway – Brazil on Education and Research

An important aspect of the official Norwegian Brazil strategy is the cooperation in higher education and research between the two countries. The previously signed MoUs between the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research (KD) and respectively the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (ME) have  lately materialized in concrete initiatives.

Cooperation on Research

In our article of 12th November BNCC informed about the Call from the Norwegian Research Council (NRC) in their Latin-American Program with special focus on Brazil. The interest for this Call has been great and the winning proposals will be announced in April.

A supplementary Call has now been issued by NRC with application deadline 13th February. See: Call has a frame of NOK 800.000 to be applied towards conferences and workshops between Norwegian and Brazilian research partners.

Cooperation on Higher Education











A simultaneous Call for applications within the field of higher education has now been issued by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU) and the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES). Deadline for applications is 26th February.

A total of NOK 4Mis available from SIU with a maximum of NOK 700.000 per project. CAPES allocation is maximum USD 116.000 per project. SIU and CAPES will jointly decide which projects are to be supported. The projects shall be related to Master’s and/or PhD level collaboration.

The objectives of these Calls are:

  • To support the development of collaborative activities between higher

education and research institutions in Brazil and Norway.

  • To promote the mobility of students and academic staff.
  • To encourage the exchange of teaching methodologies and cooperation

in provision of education.

  • To stimulate the development of innovative technologies.


All accredited higher education institutions, public and private, are eligible as long as they have a Brazilian main partner.  Cooperation with business and industry is however appreciated.


Cooperation at Bachelor and Master Level in Ålesund


In the academic year 2013/2014, Aalesund University College offers 5 tailor-made programmes for Brazilian students under the scholarship programme Science without Borders.

Application deadline for all exchange programmes is 1 March 2013.

These programmes are offered on Norwegian bachelor degree level:

  1. Exchange programme in Computer Engineer
  2. Exchange programme in Cybernetics
  3. Exchange programme in Nautical Sciences, 1 year specialization in marine offshore operations

These programmes are offered on Norwegian master degree level:

  1. Exchange programme in Product and System Design
  2. Exchange programme in Ship Design
