Brasil and taxes – Seminar organized by PWC in cooperation with BNCC

On December 2nd the BNCC member PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), in cooperation with BNCC, organized a seminar on the Brazilian tax system. This seminar was one of 4 seminars organized in cooperation with business associations in Kristiansand, Stavanger, Bergen and Oslo.

The seminar gave an overview of the complexity of the Brazilian tax regime. The structure with both federal, state and municipal taxes results in Brazil according to the World Bank being the country where most time is spent on tax compliance. With more than 50 different taxes and with interpretations  of the law texts not uniform throughout the country, a Norwegian company setting up operations in Brazil will need a good tax advisor to avoid expensive pitfalls.

The present tax agreement between Brazil and Norway was discussed as was specific issues related to the offshore service industry where most Norwegian companies are involved.

The seminar attracted 50 people, both from private business, organizations and the Norwegian public services.

The presentation given by the PWC representatives from Rio de Janeiro is found below.
