The international conference “Energy for all. Financing access for the poor” chaired by UN Secretary General and the Norwegian Prime Minister took place in Oslo earlier this week. The Brazilian delegation to the conference was headed by Márcio Pereira Zimmermann, Vice Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil. His speech at the conference focused on the project “Luz para Todos (Light for everybody)” as an illustration on how a country can provide energy access to all citizens.
On October 11th BNCC had the unique opportunity to organize a private luncheon where some of the BNCC members involved in projects for energy production in Brazil could present their plans to the Vice Minister and his delegation, notably including the Director of Eletrobras, Valter Luiz Cardeal. The conversations around the tables gave both an insight into Brazil’s plans for production of energy from renewable sources, like hydro, biomass and wind and an encouragement for Norwegian companies to enter this field where opportunities for private participation are good.
Some BNCC members, like SN Power, UMOE Bioenergy , DnBNOR, Hydro and Lorentzen are already active in renewable energy production in Brazil. Hopefully, invitations from the ministry and Eletrobras to make contact in Brazil, will encourage others to follow.
